Yoga and Meditation

Carolyn Is currently trained in three forms of yoga.

Hatha Yoga, a gentle combination of held poses and slow-flowing movements designed to move the attention out of the head and into the body. You will be given verbal and visual cues for alignment and draw on breath work and energy awareness. To assist in support and correct alignment for different bodies yoga props, including a bolster, blocks and a straps are sometimes used.*

Meditation (Yoga Nidra), is a fully guided yogic meditation practice designed to move you into a place of deep relaxation almost like being on the edge of sleep. Nidra is usually practiced laying down or in a position comfortable for you. This is meditation made easy. No need to clear your mind just follow the guidance to your comfort level.

Yin Yoga is a more meditative style incorporating long-held poses (1-5 minutes) focusing on the breath. It is practiced on the floor with supporting props, such as a bolster, a block and a blanket*. This practice does not engage the muscles but instead gently stresses the deeper connective tissues (tendons, fascia, and ligaments) bringing more circulation to the area and thus strengthening the joints. Each pose (or shape, as called in Yin) has several alternatives depending on your body, bone structure, and flexibility.

*Props are optional. You can also use other items from around the house as substitutes. Two bed pillows can be stuffed into one pillowcase to serve as a bolster and a dressing gown belt as a yoga strap.
