Forest Therapy

What is Forest Therapy?

Originating in Japan as Shinrin-yoku, or “forest bathing,” Forest Therapy was developed as a preventative health practice to help individuals reconnect with the healing power of nature. In this practice, nature is the therapist—your guide simply facilitates the experience.

Research indicates that a 2 to 3-hour guided Forest Therapy session offers numerous benefits, including improved mental and physical health, reduced stress, lower blood pressure and heart rate, and enhanced mood.

What to expect

During a group session, we walk less than 2 kilometers on relatively flat trails. You’ll be guided through the forest and invited to take part in a series of slow, quiet activities that engage your senses and creativity. This practice encourages presence and mindfulness, allowing for a deeper connection with nature. The pace is gentle, giving everyone space to engage at their own comfort level. Each session is unique, shaped by the season, weather, and natural surroundings.

Unless otherwise stated, these Forest Therapy sessions are suitable for participants 16 years and above.

Family friendly sessions

As an experienced teacher and outdoor educator, Carolyn has thoughtfully designed these two-hour sessions for school-aged children and their parents or carers. Younger siblings are welcome and encouraged to join in at their own pace. Each family-friendly activity is crafted to awaken the senses, spark creativity, and inspire curiosity about the natural world. These sessions offer meaningful experiences and lasting benefits for both children and adults.
